Al Frater

Born in Brooklyn NY June 18 1944. Joined the Marine Corps in August 1963 Basic Training in Parris island SC, after PI I went to Camp Geiger for ITR. Then I went to NAS Memphis for Avionics training and came out as a 6613 Fire Control Technician. I was stationed at Cherry Point NC where I worked in the Radar shop, I then transferred to VMFA 323 an F4 Phantom squadron. In November of 1965 we were deployed to Vietnam where I was at DaNang and Chu Lai. airbase. After returning from Vietnam, I went back Cherry Point where I served until discharged as a E4 Cpl in August 1967.

After the Marine Corps, I worked for IBM for 30 years as a System Engineer. I joined the Gooney Bird Detachment in 2004. I served as Sr Vice, Commandant and JA. I have been District Vice for the last 4 years. I am also a member of the Military order of Devil Dogs where I served as Pound Dog Robber and Pack Dog Robber since 2006. I am also a member of VFW, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans, JWV, and served as a volunteer on the USS Intrepid.
