Drafted into the Marine Corps in October 1969, I was sent to Parris Island for Boot Camp. Transferred to Camp Geiger (Camp Lejuene) for Infantry Training Regiment (ITR). I was transferred back to Parris Island for Admin School. Upon completion of Admin School I was transferred Reserve Liaison and Training Branch, Education Center, Marine Corps Development and Education Command at Quantico, Virginia in July 1970.
On February 1971, I was transferred to Camp Schwab in Okinawa and was assigned to the Second Battalion, Ninth Marines, Third Marine Division where I was assigned to S2 in the Battalion Headquarters. After several months on Okinawa, the Battalion was put to sea on the LPH-11, USS New Orleans. We made several stops in the South Pacific: Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines.
At the end of my tour of duty in September, 1971, I was flown back to Camp Pendleton, California where I was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.
